Behavior/Incentives Program

There is a behavior clip chart hanging in our classroom. Every student has a clothespin with their name on it. Each student begins on “Ready to Learn” at the start of every day. As our day proceeds, the students’ behavior dictates whether they will move up the chart and earn rewards or move down the chart and face a consequence. In addition, every student has their own laminated "Mini Clip Chart" that they carry between their homeroom teacher and my learning support classroom. If the student moves up, I will initial on the color they clipped up to and they will receive an award in not only my classroom, but also in their homeroom classroom (earn dojo points, clipping up in their homeroom, earn tally marks, etc. depending on the classroom).

Clip Chart Levels:

OUTSTANDING:
The student clipped up three times. This level is reserved for extraordinary behavior, and will not be given out loosely. We want this level to remain super special; please do not expect your child to reach this level daily. If your child does reach this level, they will receive a prize!

 EXCELLENT CHOICES:
The student clipped up two times for making great choices and having great behavior. You should be very proud of your child for ending his or her day on this level!

GREAT EFFORT:
Students will move to the ‘Good Choices’ level for showing they are making the right behavior decisions! Ending the day on this level is great!

READY TO LEARN:
Every student will start the day on Ready to Learn. This is an acceptable level to stay at throughout the day. If the student end the day on this level, they did not get in trouble, it just means they did not go “above and beyond.”

THINK ABOUT IT:
The student clipped down as a warning of bad behavior or making poor choices in or out of the classroom. This is a reminder that they need to follow classroom and/or school rules.

MAKE BETTER CHOICES:
Students move to orange if they continue to have a hard time making good choices. The teacher will choose a consequence based on the child’s behavior. For example: Taking time away from recess or a loss of a privilege.

PARENT CONTACT:
Students who have moved their clips down to red have continued to struggle with their behavior and/or poor choices. If your child ends their day at this level, I will contact you via phone call or email to discuss the situation. In addition, the student will also lose recess time or a loss of a privledge

 -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
In addition to the clip chart, every student has their own sticker chart consisting of 5 rows with 5 squares in each row. When a student remains on "Ready to Learn" or higher, they are able to earn a sticker for the day. Once they fill a row with 5 stickers, the student is able to earn a prize. Then, once they fill their entire sticker chart they are able to choose a larger prize (lunch with Mrs. Weary, extra computer time, recess with Mrs. Weary, extra snack, bring in a stuffed animal from home, or teacher chair for a day)
